In Kana, we get this question quite often from prospective clients: What is User Interface? So, let us define it in a simple way. The user interface (UI) is everything designed into an information device with which a person may interact. It include the process of crafting a visual language and hierarchy that allows someone to use and engage an application.
In case you already have a website or an application, it’s time to ask, is your UI application “friendly” enough? A great user interface must provide a user-friendly experience, allowing the user to use the software or hardware in a natural and intuitive way. It’s important because if your potential customers find your website to be too complicated to navigate or too confusing, then even the best product in the world could be left collecting dust on the Internet.
In Kana, when we build a website or applications for our clients, we create UI with a balance of amazing looks and interactivity with ease of use and simple navigation. For us, the goal of user interface design is to make the user knew the purpose of the site; they found the information they were looking for; and they loved it so much that they alerted the masses through their social networks of the site (Hey @Andy! Check out this awesome site that sold me men clothing and looked hip to the jive!).
If you want to create a website or applications, there are important trends in 2015 that you need to be aware.
“Mobile-First” Will Replace “Mobile-Friendly”
Mobile is not a trend, nor is it even the future, it’s the present. We heard a lot about the importance of having a responsive or “mobile-friendly” website, however in 2015 we’ll see a shift into “mobile-first” mentality. If users find the UI is easy to use on mobile devices, they’ll be much happier with the app or the website.
Make It Bigger
Have you noticed? Images are getting bigger. Nowadays, more and more designers are using full screen images and larger body images in their designs. This trend appears mostly in desktop designs. Nonetheless, in the last year this trend is showing up more and more on mobile as well.
Infographics Are Dead. Long Live Webgraphics
In the world of digital publishing, infographics have been the trend for the past few years and have become an outdated method of data visualization. However, with more and more users accessing content on their mobile devices, infographics need to grow beyond a static image and being replaced with Webgraphic which is more visually appealing and effective.
While video backgrounds are something we don’t see on mobile (because of technical restraints and bandwidth considerations), this rather new trend is great in the world of desktop. Stunning and engaging video backgrounds add motion and personality to a layout.
You can be sure to see more of these trends in 2015. Try it on your next UI design project, and remember that User Interface is also the face of your brand!
